Young Adolf by iNeedChemicalX Young Adolf by iNeedChemicalX
i present you a very rare portrait of little Hitler, taken back in 1892, when he used to play with his blonde doll named Zani.
oooh, how the time goes by... everything stays the same though................

(seriously now, i have some thanks to give to my two brilliant cousins, Felix - the most histrionic child i know, and Bianca - a very good director)

I really like the starling concept behind this, very powerful while also slightly amusing and clever. The black and white overall tone was well chosen and makes this appear more nostalgic and believable

Good Art isn't safe! If it doesn't evoke emotion or controversy then as an artist we are doing something wrong! I happen to like this, but I don't play it safe I like to be on the edge. :)

This picture reminds me of a story i once read about a woman and her struggle with losing her first three children. And when her fourth child was born the reader became sympathetic towards the woman and her child and prayed that the boy would survive, only to have it revealed that the child was Hitler himself. This, in a way, makes us remember that he was once a vulnerable boy and it was not in his nature to be evil, but by nuture. Not in anyway am i making an excuse for Hitler... but it's interesting to think about.

Now that was a bit of a rant.. and i know that you made this photograph for a laugh.. but within it i see a deeper message. I find this picture really interesting. (:

Hehehe. This is fantastic. The beauty of it is that it makes me laugh for many reasons. It is both whimsical and profound at the same time. I find hilarity just in the sheer ambivalence of this piece. It's funny that my mind's best effort to explain two contradictions coexisting can only go so far as the word 'ambivalence', which hardly feels real. And that's why I laugh. At the ultimate futility of my effort to understand.

The boy's expression is absolutely priceless and you've capture it beautifully. It makes laugh as my mind supplies the accompanying sounds when one would make with that face while playing like. I know I wouldn't be able to resist making some ridiculous noises. Too much fun to pass up. And then it's strange to run the scenario through my head entirely mute. Not even his actions making a sound. It takes on a very different tone in my head.

To me it is also a fascinating commentary on how evil is perceived by people. It can be argued that many see Hitler as the ultimate epitome of evil. And by invoking Hitler's name or image perceptions of evil are intrinsically brought into light. To me it seems that many people think of it as taboo to acknowledge that Hitler was never anything but pure evil at any point in his life. Any small suggestion that he held some form of innocence seems to threatens a strange sanctity that is some people's understanding of evil. When I use the term 'sanctity', I'm mostly referring to the idea that it's easier to consider him an absolute monster than to have to examine the driving forces behind his actions and acknowledge that he was human in the process. Monsters aren't born, they're made. And then it becomes tricky, because it's far easier to dehumanize.

In addition this photo also makes me think how interesting it is that Hitler's name and image hold such immense power regarding the idea of evil. Mere mention of him seems to trump all else. Hitler wasn't a one-man band. And as previously mentioned by other commenter there's plenty of evil all around us that goes unseen.

Anywho. I'm rambling now. Sorry about the length. Fantastic photo. It's though provoking, well executed, and made me laugh. :)

Re comments on this one: I guess, for some it is hard to confront evil and easier to hide it. But it's there, it is not going away by itself. I feel this is a disturbing picture, a brave one, and naturally it touches a subject that has a lot of pain attached to it. It is even less scary than it is supposed to be, since I am sure, Hitler as a child was not scary at all.

What a scary thought. Not being able to recognize evil in the making.

Imagine those people who knew him as a child and then also learned what he did when he was grown up.
And you would need to live with the thought that you had your chance to stop him or do something about it and didn't, because you simply didn't know.

(Hopefully this was the case, because if there was somebody who knew god help his soul)

I think this is a great comment on the lack of knowledge on human behavior and the prediction of it.
For me it is of course disturbing, but rightly so. Not everything is sunshine and happiness unfortunately.
If this had been an actual photograph I guess you could blame those who raised him, but I am sure he was nothing like that.

She pointed out the truth. Don't you think that Hitler as a child was innocent? The worst kind of evil is camouflaged in innocence, and yes it is important that people think about this, because we should know human nature and behavior and being able to recognize evil. Even if it is not pleasant.

I think Twatcher has a good point.

Once on a TV show the main character was asked "If you could go back in time to when Hitler was a kid, would you kill him? Knowing what he became later? "

He simply replied "NO. Because he would just be a child. He wouldn't be the Hitler we know of now."

The more interesting thing would be to know with certainty why he became what he became and why he actually did what he did, and being able to change that/prevent that from happening.
That would be a way to "kill every new Hitler still in the making" without actually killing.

Opens up a whole discussion about the nature vs. nurture thing as well.
Could his actions have been prevented? Would he have turned out that way if something
in his life had gone differently? Or was he destined to be born bad?

Definitely could argue that for days. lol

I don't believe anyone ever is born evil/bad.
You can become something that is considered evil, but in doing so you will have a justification how what you do is in fact not evil and is in fact for the greater good (I know he believed that), and it even might sound logical.
The act of destroying large amounts of life, independent of human or not I consider evil, but I don't think "nature" would purposely create such a thing, only by some perverted mistake. Also he based the killing of Jews on concepts which were by no means born with him... But yes, one could argue a lot about this and exchange opinions.

Plus, I thought, maybe, just reading the description, one would realize this was supposed to be humorous. But people do have very very strong opinions, after all, I guess...

Why are people so intrigued by this? Why do they start thinking I'm making Hitler look innocent? My cousins and I only did this for fun, because, you know, in art, everything is permitted. Not even for a second had I thought it would provoke such a mess.

I guess many fear too much and have forgotten to just take it as it is, a simple photo of a simple little kid with a Hitler mustache playing with a doll.

I'm sorry if I somehow "disappointed" you, but I promise, I do have brains and heart enough to know the difference between good and bad.

I hope you'll understand. :)

I have to say that I like the photo. It's quiet sarcastic, especially the fact that he destroys Zani. A Barbie, tall, blonde, beautiful, perfect. All this aryan attributes that hitler had in mind for the ideal human being. On the other hand I do understand people who can't See anything entertaining in it. I guess my grandparents would never tolerated a combination like that.

Don't care about the haters, haters gonna hate and bitches gonna bitch.
I don't LOVE the picture but I don't hate it either, it's a nice photo. His hair could have been a bit more Hitler-esque actually, that's the only thing that really bothers me. The idea is amusing and nice execution. Also I'm not a fan of the title, you should have named it either "young adolf", "young hitler", "heil young hitler" or something like that, but "young heil hitler" doesn't make any sense when you think about the fact that "heil hitler" means what it does, it just sounds wrong. It's like you would say "young hi hitler". Do you see my point? : P
Anyways nice work and I be loving the provocation : D
